Synopsis

Course Overview

Canada’s history of rights and freedoms is a story of change, activism, and progress. Over time, people across the country have worked to expand fairness, equality, and protection under the law. A key part of this story is the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, which helps protect the rights of individuals and groups in Canada.

In this OTG, we will explore important moments that led to the creation of the Charter and how it continues to shape Canadian society today. We will look at how factors such as class, race, ethnicity, language, religion, gender identity, sexual orientation, politics, and geography influence people’s experiences and access to rights.

No single course can cover every experience, but this OTG offers a clear and engaging introduction to Canada’s ongoing journey toward diversity, inclusion, and equality. Through short snapshots of key events, learners will gain a better understanding of how the Charter protects rights and why it matters in everyday life.
